Can I
Learn?
Yes. The club operates a fleet of two seat training and single
seat gliders. Many members had no previous experience before joining, with many
students flying solo after about 100 launches. Given good weather and continuity
of training you might go solo after six to eight months.
Gliding spans all ages and members come from a wide range of backgrounds - some
started before the age of 16, while others discovered the sport after they
retired. The easiest way to find out if you like gliding is to join as a
temporary member and have a trial lesson (without obligation) during which the
basics of flight will be demonstrated.
If you decide to join as a full member, use of the clubs fleet and instruction
are included in the membership fees.

What else?
You should have warm and waterproof clothing available, together
with practical shoes. We will also need to know your weight to check the balance
of the aircraft.

General
Information
If you have purchased a Trial Lesson Voucher please book
your flight in advance. You will be sent details about the booking
scheme with your vouchers and flights may be booked on all our normal flying
days.
Please try and arrive half an hour before your flight
time. When you arrive please park outside the clubhouse and introduce
yourself to any club member who will be happy to direct you to the launch
point where you must hand in your completed application form. While
you wait to fly you can relax in our clubhouse which offers a full catering
service. This is also available for Trial Lesson Evenings but must
be arranged in advance.
Please note that certain minimum and maximum size and
weight restrictions apply - if in doubt, please ask for more information.

Flying Times
Whenever the club is open (Weekends,
Wednesdays, Thursdays, & Bank Holidays throughout the year) there is the
possibility of trial lessons being available. However, Club instructional flying
and pre-booked trial lessons may make it difficult to arrange flights at short notice, so please be prepared
to wait. Ask the advice of the Duty Instructor or Launch Marshal at the launch
point for an indication of the likely waiting time, to take the opportunity to
talk to other members. We will always try to fly you as soon as possible. Please
remember that gliding is a very weather dependant sport and flying activities
may have to be modified for this and other operational reasons.

Catering Facilities
In our clubhouse you will find "H" (pictured
opposite) who runs the catering for club members and visitors.
There is a wide selection of hot & cold meals available in the menu along with
daily specials and of course a constant supply of tea, coffee or a selection
of cold drinks.
You will find "H" at the club from mid morning
to mid afternoon on all the normal club operating days. You can also
arrange catering for trial lesson evenings during the summer months.
